Today is definitely the 8th day of the 8th month of the 8th year of 2000. It’s 08.08.08! Is it National SEO Day?
The vision and original goal was to create a non-official International holiday to celebrate the disciplines of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), including Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Social Media Marketing (SMM). Today was supposed to be the kickoff! However, we’ve been so busy doing SEO that we haven’t had time to virally spread the vision.
The vision includes more than finding reasons for perks at the office. We’d like to raise awareness about the need for education and gather support for a scholarship fund for up-and-coming SEOs.
The industry is fragmented and in many ways divided like the Olympics today. However, there are SEOs who love this industry and the vision of how it can help people.
So, today, is the start to create something memorable for the future. No “black hat” or “black hate!” Yes to SEO love and “white hat” and helping other people with integrity! Please let us know if you want to be part of this vision! If so, please leave your egos at the door! Let’s see where this takes us for next year.

What’s National SEO Day all about?
National Search Engine Optimizers Day celebrates the power of SEO, viral marketing and our love of social search. See the SEO, SEM and SMO in our little badge?. It’s about unity! (And don’t the 2008 Olympics start on the same day, August 8, 2008?)
The day was “made up” by Dana Larson on Twitter and carried forward together with Dana Lookadoo on Twitter. Read the history and find out how National Search Engine Optimizers Day was born.
Next Generation SEOs
Those who practice online marketing probably care about the next generation of SEOs. There is a huge need for training and realize colleges are not delivering curriculum needed to enter the field.
Maybe National SEO Day and this site can serve as an avenue to raise money for an annual SEO Scholarship Fund. (Dana and Dana don’t want to touch any money, so is there a need for a non-profit?) There are some great SEO training organizations that we have yet to contact. Scholarship money would go to helping candidates pay for courses. We don’t have this figured out yet, but doing something good to help the industry would sure be nice.
